Lokomotiva is a term used in several South Slavic languages, including Croatian, Serbian, Bosnian, and Slovenian, to denote a locomotive, the powered rail vehicle that provides the motive power for trains. The word is cognate with the English term locomotive and is used across technical, historical, and everyday contexts.

In railway systems, locomotives come in several propulsion types. Steam locomotives burn fuel to heat water and produce steam that drives pistons or turbines. Diesel locomotives often use a diesel engine to drive a generator that powers traction motors, a setup known as diesel-electric. Electric locomotives draw power from overhead lines or a third rail and transfer it directly to traction motors.
