Ljóss is a term used in Icelandic to refer to light and illumination. In everyday Icelandic, the common noun for light is ljós; ljóss appears as a genitive form meaning “of light” in phrases. The concept of ljóss encompasses both natural daylight and artificial illumination.

Light is electromagnetic radiation visible to the human eye and propagates at about 299,792 kilometers per second in vacuum. The visible spectrum spans roughly 380 to 750 nanometers, with wavelength determining perceived color. Vision arises from photoreceptor cells translating light into neural signals.
