Livyatan is an extinct genus of toothed whale that lived approximately 12 to 13 million years ago during the Miocene epoch. It is known from a partial skeleton discovered in the Pisco Formation of Peru. The most striking feature of Livyatan is its immense size; estimates suggest it could have reached lengths of up to 17 meters (56 feet), making it one of the largest predatory whales known. Its skull was particularly massive, measuring about 3 meters (9.8 feet) long.
