Liitvärvid, also known as composite colors, are colors produced by mixing two or more primary colors or other colors. This concept is fundamental in color theory and has applications across various fields, including art, design, printing, and digital displays.

The most common primary colors in additive color mixing, used in light-emitting devices like screens, are red, green, and blue (RGB). Mixing red and green light produces yellow, red and blue light creates magenta, and green and blue light results in cyan. Combining all three primary colors in equal intensity produces white light. Conversely, the absence of all light is black.

In subtractive color mixing, used with pigments and inks, the primary colors are typically cyan, magenta, and yellow (CMY). Mixing cyan and magenta ink produces blue, cyan and yellow ink creates green, and magenta and yellow ink results in red. Combining all three subtractive primaries in equal proportions theoretically produces black, although in practice, a darker shade like a deep brown is often achieved, which is why black ink (K) is often included in printing systems (CMYK).

The perception and creation of liitvärvid depend on whether the mixing is additive or subtractive. Understanding these principles allows for the accurate reproduction and manipulation of color in various media.
