Leukemialymphomas represent a complex group of cancers that originate from lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell, and can manifest in either the bone marrow and blood (leukemia) or in lymph nodes and other lymphoid tissues (lymphoma). This dualistic presentation is a key characteristic of these malignancies. They arise from the uncontrolled proliferation of abnormal lymphocytes.

The specific type of leukemialymphoma depends on the exact cell of origin and its stage of development. For example, chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL) are considered by many to be the same disease that presents differently based on blood involvement.
