Lepokaudet refers to periods of rest or dormancy experienced by many organisms. These periods are crucial for survival, allowing creatures to conserve energy, withstand harsh environmental conditions, or prepare for reproduction.

In plants, lepokaudet often manifest as dormancy during winter. Deciduous trees shed their leaves, and many herbaceous plants die back to their roots, which are protected underground. This strategy prevents water loss and damage from freezing temperatures. Some plants may enter a dormant state during hot, dry periods, known as aestivation.

Some aquatic organisms, such as certain fish and invertebrates, can also enter periods of dormancy, often in response to unfavorable water conditions like low oxygen or extreme temperatures.
