Lentokenttä, also known as an airport, is a complex of runways and buildings at which aircraft such as helicopters, gliders, and jet planes take off and land. Airports are facilities that serve as hubs for air travel, enabling the transport of passengers and cargo. They typically consist of several key components. Runways are the paved surfaces from which aircraft gain the necessary speed for takeoff and on which they decelerate after landing. Taxiways are paths that connect runways to aprons, hangars, and terminals. Aprons are areas where aircraft are parked, loaded, unloaded, refueled, or boarded. Terminals are buildings where passengers can board and disembark from aircraft and where baggage is handled.
Airports vary greatly in size and scope, from small general aviation fields serving private planes to massive
