Leikkausjärjestys, often translated as order of operations, is a set of rules in mathematics that dictates the sequence in which mathematical operations should be performed in an expression. PEMDAS stands for Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication and Division (from left to right), and Addition and Subtraction (from left to right). BODMAS stands for Brackets, Orders (powers and square roots), Division and Multiplication (from left to right), and Addition and Subtraction (from left to right). The inclusion of parentheses or brackets signifies that any operations within them must be completed first. Following this, any exponents or orders are calculated.

Next, multiplication and division are performed. These two operations have equal priority, so they are executed in the order they appear from left to right within the expression. Finally, addition and subtraction are carried out, also from left to right, as they have the lowest priority.
