Lavmikrofonit is a small clip-on microphone worn on clothing to enable hands-free audio capture. It is widely used in television, film, theater, public speaking, and online video. The device is typically clipped to the chest or lapel and connected to a recording or broadcasting setup via wired or wireless links. In international contexts these devices are commonly referred to as lavalier microphones.

Construction and power: Most lavmikrófonit use a compact electret condenser capsule that requires bias voltage from the connected equipment or wireless transmitter. Wired versions connect with small jacks (such as 3.5 mm) or XLR connectors, depending on the system. Wireless versions consist of a compact microphone connected to a bodypack transmitter that communicates with a receiver, enabling mobility on set or stage.

Placement and technique: For best results, the mic is clipped about 10–20 cm from the mouth, on the chest or collarbone. A foam windscreen or furry windjammer helps reduce breath plosives and wind noise. Care should be taken to avoid rubbing against clothing or jewelry, which can generate rustle sounds or pops.

Types and performance: Omnidirectional lavalier mics pick up sound from all directions, yielding natural voice but potentially more background noise. Cardioid or subcardioid variants offer greater off-axis rejection but can be more sensitive to placement. Professional lav mics emphasize a flat frequency response and low self-noise for clear dialogue.

Selection and maintenance: Choose a mic with adequate signal-to-noise ratio and suitable sensitivity for your recording chain. Check compatibility with your transmitter or mixer, and whether phantom power is required. Regularly replace windscreens and inspect cables or connectors in wired systems.
