A lausefrase is a grammatical construction in Norwegian that consists of a subordinate clause that is placed before the main clause. This structure is often used for emphasis or to create a specific stylistic effect. The subordinate clause typically begins with a subordinating conjunction such as "at" (that), "fordi" (because), "når" (when), or "selv om" (although). When the subordinate clause precedes the main clause, the subject of the main clause is moved to the third position, immediately after the finite verb. This is known as inversion.

For example, in the sentence "Jeg er glad fordi solen skinner" (I am happy because the sun is shining), if we use a lausefrase, it becomes "Fordi solen skinner, er jeg glad" (Because the sun is shining, I am happy). Here, "Fordi solen skinner" is the subordinate clause, and "er jeg glad" is the main clause with inversion.
