These elements, also known as sentence members, are responsible for conveying the meaning and structure of a complete thought. The primary lauseenjäsenteet are the subject (subjekti), predicate (predikaatti), and object (objekti).

The subject is the noun or pronoun that performs the action of the verb or is described by the predicate. For example, in "Koira juoksee" (The dog runs), "koira" is the subject. The predicate, typically a verb, describes the action or state of the subject. In "Koira juoksee," "juoksee" is the predicate.

Objects receive the action of the verb. Finnish distinguishes between a direct object (partitiivi or genetiivi, depending on the verb and context) and an indirect object (usein allatiivi, adessiivi, tai illatiivi). For instance, in "Hän lukee kirjaa" (He/She reads a book), "kirjaa" is the direct object.

Other important lauseenjäsenteet include adverbials (adverbiaali), which provide additional information about time, place, manner, or cause, such as "Hän lukee kirjaa *hiljaa*" (He/She reads the book *quietly*). Adjectival phrases (appositiivinen määrite) and genitive attributes (genetiivinen määrite) function as modifiers, describing nouns. Understanding these lauseenjäsenteet is crucial for constructing grammatically correct and meaningful Finnish sentences.
