Larchitecture is an interdisciplinary field that studies the relationship between language and built environments, examining how linguistic practices shape architectural design and how spaces influence language use and comprehension. The term, a portmanteau of language and architecture, is sometimes written as L-architecture to emphasize the linguistic dimension of spatial experience.

Proponents explore signage, naming, and the semiotics of space; they consider typography, readability, multilingual signage, and the wayfinding cues that publics encounter in streets, museums, and transit systems. Larchitecture also encompasses the acoustic design of spaces, since spoken language and sound environments affect comfort and communication. The field draws on linguistics, semiotics, cognitive psychology, and architectural theory to address how context, culture, and social practice shape language in built settings.

Methods include field observations of real-world environments, corpus analyses of signs and texts, listening tests and comprehension experiments, and participatory design workshops with diverse user groups. Designers and researchers may create prototypes or guidelines to test how changes in signage, typography, and spatial cues influence navigation, safety, and inclusivity.

Applications include urban planning, public transit design, museums, universities, healthcare facilities, and workplace campuses, where clear communication and inclusive environments are priorities.

Critics note that larchitecture can risk overemphasizing language at the expense of other design aspects or that its boundaries remain unsettled without widely adopted standards. Nevertheless, it contributes to discussions about accessibility, cultural representation, and the lived experience of space.
