Lamellierte is the German adjective derived from lamellieren, meaning to form or relate to lamellae, which are thin plate-like layers. In biology and anatomy, lamellae are common structural features. For example, gill lamellae in many fish increase surface area for gas exchange, and plant chloroplasts contain thylakoid membranes organized into lamellae that connect to grana.
