Lahustuvuuskäyrät, also known as solubility curves, are graphical representations illustrating the relationship between the solubility of a solute in a solvent and temperature. Typically, the y-axis represents the solubility, often measured in grams of solute per 100 grams of solvent, while the x-axis represents the temperature, usually in degrees Celsius.

These curves show how the amount of solute that can dissolve in a given amount of solvent changes as the temperature increases or decreases. For most solid solutes in liquid solvents, solubility increases with increasing temperature, resulting in an upward sloping curve. This is because higher temperatures provide more kinetic energy to solvent molecules, allowing them to overcome intermolecular forces holding the solute together and dissolve it more effectively.

However, there are exceptions. Some solid solutes exhibit decreasing solubility with increasing temperature, showing a downward sloping curve. Gases, on the other hand, generally show decreasing solubility in liquids as temperature rises. This is due to the fact that dissolving a gas into a liquid is typically an exothermic process, and according to Le Chatelier's principle, increasing the temperature will shift the equilibrium towards the reactants, meaning less gas will dissolve.

Solubility curves are essential tools in chemistry for predicting how much solute will dissolve at a specific temperature, designing crystallization processes, and understanding various chemical phenomena. They provide a visual and quantitative method for analyzing the solubility behavior of different substances under varying thermal conditions.
