Laboritulemused are the results produced after laboratory testing of biological samples such as blood, urine, stool, swabs, or tissue. Commonly reported tests include blood counts, metabolic panels, lipid panels, liver and kidney function tests, glucose, thyroid hormones, and infectious disease assays.

Results are generated in laboratories using standardized procedures and instruments. They are presented as numerical values with units and, in many cases, qualitative statements such as positive or negative. Reference ranges or cutoffs are provided to help interpret whether a value is typical for a person of a given age and sex. Some results may be reported as ranges, while others may require comment on clinical significance.

Interpreting lab results requires clinical context. Factors such as age, sex, pregnancy, fasting status, time of day, medications, recent diet, hydration, and sample handling can influence results. Abnormal results do not by themselves establish a diagnosis; they often prompt further testing, repeat testing, or assessment of symptoms and history. Conversely, a normal result may not exclude a condition if tests were not targeted appropriately.

Results are usually communicated to the ordering clinician and, when appropriate, to the patient. They may include recommendations for follow-up, additional tests, or treatment changes. Quality assurance, sample quality, and analytical variability are intrinsic considerations in lab testing, and clinicians typically consider these when using lab results for decision-making. Confidentiality and data protection apply to all results.
