Lappar­ti­cles, also known as lap­par­ti­cles, are hy­po­thet­i­cal sub­a­tom­ic par­ti­cles that have been pro­posed in some ex­ten­sions of the Stan­dard Mod­el of par­ti­cle phys­ics. Their ex­is­tence is not cur­rent­ly con­firmed by ex­per­i­men­tal ev­i­dence. The name "lappar­ti­cle" is de­rived from the Greek let­ter lambda ($\lambda$), which is of­ten used in the­o­ret­i­cal phys­ics to de­note cer­tain spe­cial par­ti­cles or states.

These par­ti­cles are typ­i­cal­ly pre­dict­ed to have prop­er­ties that dif­fer from known par­ti­cles, such as un­us­u­al spin or mass values, or in­ter­ac­tions with the fun­da­men­tal forces that are not ac­count­ed for by the Stan­dard Mod­el. Spe­cif­ic­al­ly, they might be in­volved in pro­cess­es like dark mat­ter or pro­vide ex­pla­na­tions for anom­a­lies ob­served in cos­mo­log­i­cal or high-en­er­gy phys­ics ex­per­i­ments.

The the­o­ret­i­cal fram­e­works that in­tro­duce lappar­ti­cles of­ten aim to ad­dress out­stand­ing ques­tions in phys­ics, such as the na­ture of dark en­er­gy, the hierarchy prob­lem, or the ori­gin of neu­tri­no mass. Re­search­ers are con­tin­u­ous­ly de­vis­ing ex­per­i­men­tal strate­gies, in­clud­ing those at par­ti­cle ac­cel­er­a­tors like the Large Had­ron Col­lid­er or through astro­phys­i­cal ob­ser­va­tions, to search for ev­i­dence of such new par­ti­cles. How­ev­er, to date, no con­clu­sive de­tec­tion of lappar­ti­cles has been re­port­ed.
