In Estonia, this term is most frequently encountered when discussing television broadcasts, streaming services, and digital photography. High-resolution content offers significantly more detail and clarity compared to standard definition, leading to a more immersive viewing or viewing experience.

The term "kõrglahutus" encompasses various resolutions, with 1080p (Full HD) and 4K (Ultra HD) being the most prevalent. 1080p displays content at 1920 pixels horizontally and 1080 pixels vertically, while 4K boasts 3840 pixels horizontally and 2160 pixels vertically, resulting in four times the detail of 1080p. The adoption of "kõrglahutus" has been driven by advancements in display technology, increased internet bandwidth, and the availability of content produced in these higher resolutions.
