Käämilaitteet, known in English as coil devices, are a category of electronic components designed to generate a magnetic field through the flow of electric current. The fundamental principle behind their operation is electromagnetism, where an electric current passing through a conductor creates a magnetic field around it. Typically, a käämilaite consists of a coil of wire, often wrapped around a core material to enhance the magnetic effect.

The properties and applications of käämilaitteet vary widely depending on their design and construction. Simple inductors are basic käämilaitteet used for storing energy in a magnetic field, filtering signals, or creating resonant circuits. More complex devices include electromagnets, which are used to produce strong, controllable magnetic fields for a variety of purposes such as lifting heavy objects, in motors and generators, and in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machines.
