Kylmälaminaatiossa, known in English as cold lamination, is a process used to protect and enhance printed materials without the use of heat. It involves applying a plastic film to a substrate, such as paper or cardboard, using an adhesive that cures at room temperature. This differs from hot lamination, which requires a heated laminating machine to activate the adhesive.

The cold lamination process typically utilizes pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSAs). These adhesives are already in a sticky state and bond to the surface when pressure is applied, usually by passing the material and film through rollers. The film itself is often made of polyester, vinyl, or polypropylene, and can come in various finishes like gloss, matte, or textured.

Cold lamination is a versatile technique suitable for a wide range of applications where heat might damage the substrate or ink. This includes laminating photographs, delicate documents, vinyl graphics, and certain types of plastics. It's also a popular choice for on-site applications or when specialized heat-activated equipment is not available.
