Kylmäpaneelit, often translated as cold panels or cooling panels, are a type of passive cooling technology used in buildings to regulate indoor temperatures. They function by absorbing heat from the surrounding air and transferring it to a circulating cooling medium, typically water. This process helps to lower the ambient temperature without the need for traditional air conditioning systems that blow air.

The panels are usually integrated into ceilings or walls. During operation, cool water circulates through channels within the panels. As the warm air in the room comes into contact with the cooler surface of the panel, heat is transferred from the air to the water. The warmed water is then pumped away to a chiller or a cooling tower to be re-cooled, and the cycle continues.

One of the main advantages of kylmäpaneelit is their silent operation and the absence of drafts, which can be uncomfortable with forced-air systems. They also offer energy efficiency benefits by reducing electricity consumption compared to conventional air conditioners. The heat absorption is primarily through radiation and convection.
