Kviðverki refers to abdominal pain, a common symptom with a wide range of potential causes. This discomfort can manifest in various ways, from sharp, localized pain to a dull, diffuse ache. The location of the pain can offer clues to its origin; for instance, pain in the upper right abdomen might suggest gallbladder issues, while pain in the lower left abdomen could be related to the colon.

The nature of kviðverki can also vary. It may be intermittent or constant, cramping or burning, and its intensity can range from mild to severe. Associated symptoms are crucial for diagnosis and can include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, fever, or changes in urine or bowel habits.

Causes of kviðverki are diverse and can be broadly categorized. Digestive issues like indigestion, gastritis, ulcers, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) are frequent culprits. Infections, such as appendicitis or diverticulitis, can cause acute and severe pain.
