Kosteuslämmitys, also known as moisture heating or steam heating in English, refers to a heating system that utilizes the latent heat of vaporization of water to transfer thermal energy. In such systems, water is heated to its boiling point, producing steam. This steam then travels through pipes to radiators or heat exchangers located in the areas to be heated. As the steam condenses back into water within these radiators, it releases a significant amount of heat, effectively warming the surrounding air.

The condensed water is then typically returned to the boiler to be reheated, creating a closed-loop system. Kosteuslämmitys systems can operate at different pressures, with low-pressure systems being common in residential buildings and high-pressure systems used in industrial applications. The advantage of using steam is its high energy density and efficient heat transfer capabilities. However, these systems require careful management of water quality and pressure to ensure safety and efficiency.
