Kosketusnäytöt, known in English as touchscreens, are display devices that allow users to interact with a computer or device by touching the screen directly with a finger or stylus. This technology has become ubiquitous in modern electronics, from smartphones and tablets to laptops, point-of-sale systems, and public information kiosks.

There are several types of touchscreens, with resistive and capacitive being the most common. Resistive touchscreens use two layers of conductive material separated by a small gap. When pressure is applied, the layers touch, registering the touch location. They are durable and can be operated with any object, but offer lower image clarity. Capacitive touchscreens, on the other hand, use a conductive coating on the glass. They detect the electrical properties of a human finger, allowing for multi-touch gestures and higher image quality. Capacitive screens are more sensitive and require less pressure but typically only respond to conductive objects like fingers or special styluses.
