Korssection, or cross-section in English, refers to the shape or area obtained when a solid object is cut by a plane. The term is used across disciplines to describe a slice that reveals internal features, composition, or structure. In practice, cross-sections are used to analyze geometry, anatomy, engineering, and imaging data.

In geometry and mathematics, a cross-section is the intersection of a solid with a plane. The cross-sectional area can vary along the slicing plane, and different orientations yield different shapes. For example, a sphere cut by a plane yields a circle, a cylinder cut perpendicularly to its axis yields a circle, while an oblique cut can produce an ellipse or other polygons for polyhedra.

In biology and medicine, cross-sections are used to study tissue architecture and organ structure. Histology involves thin tissue slices, while medical imaging techniques such as computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) produce stacked cross-sectional images that form a three-dimensional view of the body.

Obtaining cross-sections can be done by physical slicing, argumentative or automated cutting in manufacturing, or by non-invasive imaging methods. In science and engineering, cross-sectional data enable calculations of volume and surface area, material properties, and internal features that are not visible from the exterior. Tomography, for example, reconstructs a 3D object from many cross-section images.

Historically, the concept appears in classical geometry and has been extended by modern imaging techniques. In languages such as Swedish and Norwegian, terms equivalent to korssection are used for cross-sectional analysis in both theoretical and applied contexts.
