koronie

Koronie is the locative singular and dative singular form of the Polish noun korona, meaning crown. In standard Polish, korona can refer to a crown worn on the head, the crown of a tooth, or a symbolic crown. Koronie is used after certain prepositions or in constructions that require the locative or dative case, for example in phrases that describe location or aboutness, where the word appears in its -ie ending rather than the base -a form.

Historically, the term Korona (often capitalized as Korona) has carried political meaning in Polish terminology. It referred to the Crown of the Kingdom of Poland, one half of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth after the union with the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in the 16th century. The Crown lands encompassed much of central and eastern Poland and functioned as a distinct legal and administrative layer within the broader state until the partitions of Poland at the end of the 18th century. The concept was a key element in the state’s identity and heraldry, contrasting with the Lithuanian territories.
