Korkeusperäsin, also known as the elevator in English, is a flight control surface which controls the pitch of an aircraft. It is typically located on the trailing edge of the horizontal stabilizer at the tail of the aircraft. The pitch of an aircraft refers to its movement around its lateral axis, which essentially means whether the nose of the aircraft is pointing up or down.

The korkeusperäsin operates by deflecting airflow. When the korkeusperäsin is deflected upwards, it creates a downward force on the tail, causing the nose of the aircraft to pitch up. Conversely, when the korkeusperäsin is deflected downwards, it creates an upward force on the tail, causing the nose of the aircraft to pitch down. This movement is controlled by the pilot through the aircraft's control stick or yoke.

Modern aircraft often feature a one-piece horizontal stabilizer that moves in unison with the elevators, known as a stabilator. In some aircraft designs, the entire horizontal stabilizer can also pivot, performing the function of both the stabilizer and the elevator.
