Kontingentsus is a term used to describe the state or practice of allocating goods, rights, or personnel according to fixed quotas or contingent groups. In many contexts, kontingentsus denotes that an allocation is not open-ended but is limited by predefined limits.

In economics and international trade, kontingentsus commonly refers to import or export quotas that cap the volume of a particular good that may be traded within a set period.
