kontinentskorpa
Kontinentskorpa refers to the part of the Earth's crust that forms the continents. It is thicker and less dense than oceanic crust, with an average thickness of about 30 to 50 kilometers, but can reach up to 70 kilometers under mountain ranges. Its composition is primarily granitic, rich in silicon and aluminum. Unlike oceanic crust, which is continuously generated at mid-ocean ridges and recycled at subduction zones, continents are ancient and relatively stable, although they do undergo processes like erosion, deposition, and mountain building over geological timescales.
The formation of continental crust is a complex and ongoing process that began billions of years ago.
