Konsortsium, sometimes written konsorsium in Indonesian, is a formal alliance among two or more independent entities—such as corporations, universities, research institutes, or government bodies—created to pursue a common objective that is beyond the capacity of any single member. The arrangement is typically project-based and emphasizes pooling resources, expertise, and risk.

Often a konsortsium operates under a consortium agreement, which specifies its purpose, each member’s contributions, governance structures, decision-making processes, financial arrangements, intellectual property rights, and exit terms. In many cases it does not form a separate legal entity, while in others it may establish a distinct legal body to manage shared obligations.

Key features include temporary or long-term duration, defined goals, and a governance mechanism such as a steering committee or lead partner. The partnership is distinct from a typical joint venture in that members retain their own legal status and liability, and the konsortsium may be dissolved after the project ends or upon meeting its objectives.

Common contexts for konsortsia include infrastructure and public procurement projects, research and development programs, international development initiatives, and industry-standard or policy-consultation collaborations.

Advantages of forming a konsortsium include access to complementary capabilities, improved bidding or financing prospects, risk sharing, and faster access to resources. Challenges comprise coordination complexity, potential for disputes over governance or IP, unequal contributions, and the need for clear exit provisions.
