Kongruentside is a term used in geometry to denote a side of a polygon that is congruent to a designated base side under a specified congruence relation. In common usage, this relation is based on length, so kongruentsides are sides that share the same length as the reference side.

Formally, let P be a polygon and let r be a reference side of P. A side s of P is a kongruentside of r if the length of s equals the length of r. In broader contexts, the concept can be extended to a collection of polygons or a symmetry group, where s is considered kongruent to r if there exists an isometry mapping s to a position equivalent to r while preserving the relevant measurement, typically length.

Kongruentside partitions the set of sides into equivalence classes by equal length. In a regular polygon, all sides are kongruentsides to each other, whereas in irregular polygons, several distinct kongruentside classes may exist corresponding to the different side lengths.

Examples help illustrate the idea. In a triangle with sides a, b, c, if a = b, then the sides corresponding to a and b are kongruentsides to each other. In a square, all four sides are kongruentsides of the same length relative to any chosen reference side.
