Konfirmation is a religious rite of passage practiced in several Christian denominations, particularly Lutheran, Methodist, Anglican, and Catholic churches. It signifies a young person's public affirmation of their baptismal vows and their commitment to the Christian faith. The term "confirmation" itself derives from the Latin word "confirmare," meaning to strengthen or establish.

The practice typically occurs during adolescence, usually between the ages of 12 and 16. Prior to confirmation, participants often attend a period of instruction, known as confirmation classes, where they learn about Christian doctrine, scripture, and the meaning of their faith. These classes help prepare them for the solemnity of the rite and the responsibilities of Christian life.

They may lay hands on the candidates or anoint them with oil. In some traditions, a sponsor or godparent stands with the confirmand to offer support and encouragement.
