Kompostálásnál is a Hungarian term referring to the process of composting. Composting is a natural biological decomposition of organic matter into a nutrient-rich soil amendment called compost. This process is facilitated by microorganisms such as bacteria and fungi, as well as larger organisms like earthworms and insects.

The primary goal of composting is to recycle organic waste materials that would otherwise be discarded in landfills. Common materials suitable for composting include kitchen scraps like fruit and vegetable peels, coffee grounds, tea bags, and eggshells, as well as yard waste such as grass clippings, leaves, and small twigs. It is important to maintain a balance of "green" materials (nitrogen-rich) and "brown" materials (carbon-rich) for efficient decomposition.

Successful composting requires a few key elements: organic materials, moisture, oxygen, and a suitable temperature. The compost pile needs to be kept damp, similar to a wrung-out sponge, to encourage microbial activity. Regular turning or aeration of the pile provides the necessary oxygen. The decomposition process generates heat, which helps to kill weed seeds and pathogens.

The resulting compost is a dark, crumbly material with an earthy smell. It can be used to improve soil structure, increase water retention, and provide essential nutrients for plant growth in gardens, farms, and landscaping.
