Kompassverdi, or compass value, is the numerical representation of the direction indicated by a compass. It is typically expressed in degrees relative to a reference direction, most commonly magnetic north, and is used to specify the heading or bearing of a person, vehicle, or device.

Reference frames: A magnetic kompassverdi corresponds to magnetic north; to obtain true heading you must apply magnetic declination for your location. Some devices report true north directly or allow switching between magnetic and true bearings.

Typical ranges: The most common convention is 0 to 360 degrees, with 0 (and 360) representing north, 90 east, 180 south, and 270 west. Some systems use -180 to 180 degrees. The terms bearing and azimuth are often used interchangeably with kompassverdi.

Measurement and accuracy: Kompassverdi can be measured with a physical compass or a digital magnetometer in smartphones and navigation devices. Accuracy is affected by tilt, magnetic interference from nearby metals or electronics, and environmental conditions. Calibration and, when possible, tilt compensation improve reliability.
