Kohomologjia is a concept in algebraic topology that extends the notion of homology. While homology groups capture holes in a topological space, kohomologjia groups, in a sense, capture "dual" information. They can be thought of as measuring obstructions to certain kinds of mappings or as describing a richer structure on topological spaces.

The definition of kohomologjia groups is often formulated using cochain complexes, which are sequences of abelian groups and homomorphisms arranged in a specific way. A cochain complex is similar to a chain complex, used in homology, but with the arrows reversed and a different coboundary operator. The kohomologjia groups are then defined as the quotient of cocycles (elements whose coboundary is zero) by coboundaries (elements that are the coboundary of another element).

A key property of kohomologjia is the existence of a ring structure. This means that kohomologjia groups can not only be added but also multiplied, which provides additional algebraic tools for studying topological spaces. The product operation is called the cup product.
