Kogutoodang refers to the total amount of goods and services produced within a specific economy over a defined period, typically a year. It is a fundamental measure of economic activity and is often used interchangeably with the term Gross Domestic Product (GDP) when referring to the output of a nation. Kogutoodang encompasses all final goods and services produced, meaning it does not include intermediate goods that are used in the production of other goods. The calculation of kogutoodang can be done using three primary approaches: the expenditure approach, the income approach, and the production (or value-added) approach.

The expenditure approach sums up all spending on final goods and services, including consumption by households, investment by businesses, government spending, and net exports (exports minus imports). The income approach, conversely, aggregates all income earned by factors of production, such as wages, profits, rents, and interest. The production approach calculates the sum of value added at each stage of production across all industries. Changes in kogutoodang over time indicate economic growth or contraction. A rising kogutoodang generally signifies a growing economy, while a declining kogutoodang suggests a recession. It is also used to compare the economic size of different countries.
