Kirjandusesõprade is an Estonian literary society founded in 1995 in Tartu. The organization’s name translates literally to “Book Friends” and reflects its core mission of fostering a community of readers and writers who share a passion for literature. The society emerged in the post‑Cold War period when Tartu was redefining its cultural life; its founders, primarily university students and local authors, sought to revive the tradition of literary salons that had been a feature of Estonian intellectual history in the early 20th century.
