Kilpailulaki is the Finnish term for competition law. It is a body of law that regulates economic competition and aims to prevent anti-competitive practices that could harm consumers and the overall economy. In Finland, the implementation and enforcement of competition law are primarily handled by the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority (KKV). Mergers and acquisitions that could significantly lessen competition are also subject to review and potential prohibition by the authorities. Companies are often required to notify the KKV of proposed mergers if certain turnover thresholds are met. The KKV then assesses whether the merger would have detrimental effects on competition.

Violations of competition law can result in significant fines for companies and, in some cases, for individuals involved. The law also allows for damages claims by parties who have suffered losses due to anti-competitive conduct. The principles of Finnish competition law are largely harmonized with those of the European Union, ensuring a consistent approach to competition across member states.
