kiiri

Kiiri is a fictional language created for a world-building project. It is spoken by the Kiiri, a coastal people in the archipelago of Turalia within that setting. The language is designed to be analytic in its core grammar while also using affixes to express grammatical relations. Its basic word order is subject–object–verb, though topics and questions can shift order for emphasis.

Phonology and morphology: Kiiri has 18 consonants and 5 vowels. It features vowel harmony across front and back sets and avoids extensive consonant clusters. Stress is typically on the penultimate syllable. Nouns bear case-like suffixes indicating nominative, accusative, and several oblique roles; articles are demonstratives rather than a definite/indefinite marker. Verbs mark aspect and mood with affixes and helper particles; tense is expressed with auxiliary particles. Negation is formed with a separate particle preceding the verb.

Writing system: Kiiri uses a Latin-based alphabet for everyday writing, with diacritics to indicate tone and vowel length in some texts. An ancient Kiiri script is mentioned in lore but is largely decayed in daily use.

Dialects: There are three described dialects—Northern, Coastal, and Mountain Kiiri—differing mainly in phonology and vowel quality, but sharing core lexicon and grammar. Mutual intelligibility remains high.

Status: Kiiri is a constructed language used in fiction, games, and related media. It has no native speakers in the real world.
