Kierrätysendosomi is a cellular organelle involved in the process of endocytosis and subsequent material recycling within eukaryotic cells. It originates from early endosomes, which are formed when vesicles bud off from the plasma membrane, internalizing extracellular material. As these early endosomes mature, they acquire distinct protein compositions and undergo changes in their internal environment, eventually differentiating into recycling endosomes.

The primary function of recycling endosomes is to sort and return specific membrane proteins and lipids back to the cell surface. This process is crucial for maintaining the cell's plasma membrane composition, regulating receptor availability, and ensuring efficient cellular signaling.
