Ketjupysäytys is a Finnish term that translates to "chain stop" or "chain arrest" in English. It refers to a phenomenon or mechanism that prevents the propagation of a chain reaction. This concept is most commonly encountered in the context of chemical reactions, particularly polymerization processes. In chain reactions, a series of steps involving reactive intermediates, like free radicals, leads to the formation of a product. A chain stop event interrupts this sequence, effectively terminating the reaction before it can proceed further.

Various agents can act as chain stoppers. These can include specific chemical compounds designed to react with and neutralize the reactive intermediates, thereby breaking the chain.
