Keratohülaarsed, also known as horned frogs, are a group of frogs native to Madagascar. They are characterized by their distinctive, horn-like structures on their heads, which are actually modified skin and bone. These horns are not used for combat or defense, but rather for communication and display. Keratohülaarsed are primarily terrestrial, inhabiting a variety of environments including forests, grasslands, and even human settlements.

There are currently 14 recognized species of keratohülaarsed, with the most well-known being the Madagascar horned frog (Ceratophrys aurita). These frogs are known for their unique call, which sounds like a human crying and has given them the common name "crying tree frog." Their diet consists mainly of insects, which they catch using their sticky tongues.

Keratohülaarsed play a crucial role in Madagascar's ecosystems as both predators and prey. They help control insect populations and are in turn preyed upon by various animals, including birds of prey and snakes. Despite their importance, many species of keratohülaarsed are threatened by habitat loss and degradation, primarily due to deforestation and agricultural expansion. Conservation efforts are ongoing to protect these unique frogs and their habitats.
