Kapasitorio is a term found in some Filipino-language electronics texts and among hobbyists to refer to a capacitor, an electrical component that stores energy in an electric field. The word is not standard in formal Filipino science vocabulary, where kondensador is preferred.

The etymology blends kapasidad (capacity) with the suffix -orio, forming a vernacular name for a device that stores electrical charge. In practice, the kapasitorio is understood as the same object as a capacitor, used to store and release electrical energy as needed by a circuit.

A kapasitorio consists of two conductive plates separated by a dielectric. When a voltage is applied, charges accumulate on the plates, producing stored energy. The capacitance depends on plate area, separation, and the dielectric constant of the material between the plates. Common types include ceramic, film, electrolytic, and tantalum capacitors, which differ in construction, capacitance range, voltage rating, and size while sharing the same basic principle.

In practical use, kapasitor-like devices serve to smooth power supplies, filter signals, and create timing elements in circuits. They are essential for stabilizing voltages, shaping waveforms, and providing transient energy.
