Statistical analyses that can be performed on ordinal data are more limited than those for interval or ratio scales. Measures of central tendency like the median are appropriate, as are non-parametric tests such as the Mann-Whitney U test or the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Arithmetic operations like addition and subtraction are not meaningful for ordinal data due to the unequal intervals between categories.
