Järjekorrapoliitika, often translated as queueing policy or prioritization policy, refers to the set of rules and strategies used to manage the order in which tasks, requests, or individuals are processed when resources are limited. This concept is widely applicable across various domains, including computer science, economics, healthcare, and traffic management.

In computer systems, queueing policies determine how network packets, processes, or jobs are handled by a server or processing unit. Common examples include First-Come, First-Served (FCFS), where requests are processed in the order they arrive, and Priority Queuing, which assigns different levels of importance to requests, allowing higher-priority items to be processed before lower-priority ones. Other policies like Round Robin or Shortest Job First also exist, each aiming to optimize for different performance metrics such as throughput, latency, or fairness.

In economics and public services, queueing policies are employed to manage access to scarce resources or services. This can range from appointment systems in healthcare to ticketing systems for events. The design of these policies often involves balancing efficiency with equity, ensuring that while some form of prioritization might be necessary, it does not lead to undue disadvantage for certain groups.

Traffic management systems also utilize queueing policies to control the flow of vehicles at intersections or on highways. Traffic lights, for instance, implement a form of chronological prioritization, while ramp metering regulates the rate at which vehicles enter a highway to prevent congestion. The effectiveness of a queueing policy is typically measured by its ability to minimize waiting times, maximize resource utilization, and achieve the desired service level.
