Jännitevirtaominaisuudet, often translated as voltage-current characteristics or simply V-I characteristics, describe the relationship between the voltage applied across an electrical component and the resulting current flowing through it. This relationship is fundamental to understanding how various electronic devices behave.

For a simple resistor, the voltage-current characteristics are linear, following Ohm's Law, where voltage is directly proportional to current (V = IR). This means doubling the voltage will double the current, assuming constant temperature. The slope of this line on a graph represents the resistance.

However, many electronic components exhibit non-linear voltage-current characteristics. Diodes, for example, allow current to flow easily in one direction (forward bias) once a certain threshold voltage is reached, but block current flow in the opposite direction (reverse bias). This behavior is crucial for rectification and switching applications.

Transistors also display complex V-I characteristics, where the current flowing between two terminals can be controlled by the voltage applied to a third terminal. This control allows transistors to function as amplifiers or switches, forming the basis of modern electronics.
