Jutsu is a general term in the fictional Naruto universe referring to any technique a ninja can perform. These techniques are powered by chakra, a spiritual and physical energy that all living beings possess. The ability to use jutsu is what distinguishes a ninja from an ordinary person. Jutsu are broadly categorized into three main types: Ninjutsu, Genjutsu, and Taijutsu.

Ninjutsu, the most common type, involves manipulating chakra to create effects that go beyond normal human capabilities. This can include elemental transformations like fire, water, or lightning release, as well as physical enhancements or the summoning of creatures. Ninjutsu often requires hand seals, which are specific movements of the hands and fingers, to channel and shape the chakra effectively.

Genjutsu, or illusion techniques, manipulate the chakra flowing through a target's nervous system to create illusions. These can affect all five senses, making the victim perceive things that are not actually there, or distorting their perception of reality. Genjutsu are typically used for disorientation, incapacitation, or to extract information.

Taijutsu, or hand-to-hand combat techniques, focuses on the physical capabilities of the ninja. While it doesn't necessarily involve chakra manipulation in the same way as Ninjutsu or Genjutsu, it often involves enhancing the body's natural abilities through chakra control to achieve superhuman speed, strength, or agility.

There are also more advanced classifications such as Kekkei Genkai, which are unique genetic abilities that can combine different chakra natures or possess special properties. Furthermore, Fuinjutsu, or sealing techniques, are used to inscribe seals onto objects or living beings to store or suppress chakra and abilities.
