Jetobjecten, also known as jet streams, are narrow bands of strong wind in the upper levels of the atmosphere. They are typically found at altitudes between 8 and 14 kilometers (5 to 9 miles) above sea level, within the tropopause, and are characterized by their high wind speeds, often exceeding 100 knots (185 km/h or 115 mph). Jet streams are caused by the difference in temperature between the equator and the poles, which creates a strong pressure gradient and results in the formation of these fast-moving air currents.
