Isotoniset is a term with no single, widely accepted definition. In scholarly discourse it has appeared as a neologism combining isotone and set, used to denote a class of sets associated with order-preserving operations. Because there is no consensus, the term’s meaning varies by author and context.

In mathematics, a common provisional interpretation describes an isotoniset within a partially ordered set (P, ≤) as a subset S ⊆ P that is invariant under all isotone endomorphisms of P. Concretely, if f: P → P is an isotone (order-preserving) map, then for any x ∈ P, x ∈ S implies f(x) ∈ S. This definition makes an isotoniset a stable component under the action of isotone endomorphisms, connecting it to invariant-subset concepts and to the study of endomorphism monoids on posets. Some authors view isotoniset as a tool for analyzing fixed points and monotone dynamics, while others emphasize constructive characterizations in specific poset families.
