Inversió is a Catalan noun that denotes inversion or investment, depending on context. The term comes from Latin inversio and generally refers to a turning or reversal of position, order, or orientation.

In mathematics, inversió can refer to inverse operations or to geometrical inversion. An inverse operation undoes another operation, such as taking a reciprocal or solving for an unknown. Geometrical inversion is a transformation with respect to a circle: each point is mapped to a point along the same ray from the circle’s center with distance inversely proportional to its original distance. Under this mapping, lines can become circles and circles can become lines.

In finance and economics, inversió denotes the investment of capital in assets, projects, or instruments with the goal of earning returns. It includes stocks, bonds, real estate, venture funding, and other allocations, and involves risk assessment, diversification, and time horizons.

In genetics, inversió refers to a chromosomal rearrangement where a segment is reversed end to end. Inversions can be pericentric, involving the centromere, or paracentric, not involving it. In individuals heterozygous for an inversion, recombination within the inverted region is often suppressed, which can influence inheritance patterns and evolution.

In linguistics and music, inversió is used to describe changes in order. Linguistic inversion reverses the usual subject–predicate structure or forms questions; musical inversion reorders the notes in a chord or motif so a different scale degree is in the bass, altering harmony or texture.
