Intracristal is an adjective meaning located within a crista, particularly within the cristae of mitochondria. The term is used in cell biology and electron microscopy to describe localization inside these inner-membrane folds.

In mitochondria, cristae are the invaginations of the inner mitochondrial membrane that project into the matrix, increasing the surface area available for oxidative phosphorylation. The intracristal region refers to the space bounded by the cristae membranes, effectively the intracristal lumen. This microenvironment, together with crista junctions, helps organize components of the electron transport chain, ATP synthase, and associated metabolites to support efficient energy production. The intracristal space is connected to the broader mitochondrial compartments, but its topology contributes to diffusion constraints and the local distribution of protons and substrates involved in respiration.
